One Year One Garment Project
Join our 2020 One Year, One Garment Project starting October 5-6, 2019 at the Farm to Fiber Festival in Clearbrook Minnesota!
The Sustainable Sheep and Fiber Community of Northern MN (SSFC) and Farm to Fiber Festival are sponsoring a One Year, One Garment Project that promotes locally sourced materials handmade into garments of all kinds. Anyone can participate at any skill level. Each participant should decide on a garment or accessory they would like to make from natural fibers. Materials for the project should come from local producers, businesses and even your own closets. Garments can be knit, crocheted, woven, felted, sewn or otherwise handcrafted and do not need to be from new materials. Participants can also source old wool garments from local thrift stores or storage and upcycle them into new and fun items for wear. There will be monthly meeting to share ideas, learn new techniques and learn about different fiber producers, businesses and fiber types. These meetings are not mandatory, the only thing needed to participate is an interest in making your own garment from locally sourced natural fibers. At the end of our fiber year, participants are encouraged to show off their garments at the 2020 Farm to Fiber Festival Fashion Show in October where admission is free.
Possibilities for garments include, but are not limited to, scarves, hats, mittens, purses, sweaters, shawls, blankets or other wearable accessories from locally sourced natural fibers.
Come join us at Farm to Fiber Festival 2019 and kick off your own One Year, One Garment!
In addition, the SSFC will be hosting our new series of Fiber Gatherings Under the Pines with a Learn to Spin event starting September 28, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Clearwater Life Center in Gonvick, MN. Bring your wheel (in working order) or spindle or come learn some techniques on the wheels and spindles provided. You are welcome to bring tea and treats to share or just come and see what all the fun is about. Everyone welcome.
