Stephanie Anderson of Northern Woolen Mills has donated white and colored fleeces available to any 4H member who would like to participate in this workshop or enter a fleece in the judging.   Please contact the festival to reserve your fleece!

Beginning Naalbinding: $45
Instructor:  Kendra Edwards

Description: Learn what came before knitting and crocheting. We will start with a beginner stitch called the Oslo stitch and build from that. This technique is wonderful for making hats, socks/slippers, and mittens.   Naalbinding needle provided.
No Experience necessary
Students should bring 100% wool yarn
Class Limit: 7

Beginning Inkle Weaving:   All Day Class $85

Description:   
Come and learn (hands-on) a form of weaving as old as the vikings (older really). Vikings would have used inkle weaving for trim on tunics or straps for apron dresses or the many other things such weaving can be used for. It is a type of rigid heddle weaving that allows simple patterns to be woven very quickly. In class we will learn to create heddles, warp a loom, read a simple pattern and weave a simple inkle band.
No Experience Necessary
Students Should Bring:  Strong, non-stretching cord or thread, crochet cotton works well, no wool please (instructor allergy)
Materials Fee:  $2, covers heddle thread, handouts, if students want to buy a loom afterward it is an additional $38

Handcarding Fleece for Spinning:  $45

Description:  Wondering what to do with the beautiful raw fleece you purchased at a local fiber festival.  In this class, we discuss skirting and scouring (washing) a raw fleece, and the different methods of preparing clean fleece for spinning.  We will use the flick to prepare locks, and hand cards to create rolags, for spinning.  We will also use the cards to blend different fibers and colors.
No Experience Necessary
Students Should Bring:  
Hand cards (72 up to 112 tpi) a Flick (If you don’t have them a few will be available for in class use).  
Optional:  Drop spindle for spinning the beautiful rolags you will create!
Materials Fee:  $15 (The material fee will cover carding fiber and class handout)
Class Limit:  15
Minimum Age:  10

Cabled Mittens:  $45

Description:    We will start with a cabled band knit on straight needles which will become the cuff.  If you want to only go that far the cuff can be made into a headband.  From the cuff we will starting knitting in the round for the hand portion of the mitten.  
Experience required:  Must know how to knit and purl.   This will be an intermediate class.
Students Will Need:  Size 2 needles and fingering weight yarn.

Unavailable:   Anatomy and Knitting Socks:  All Day Class $85

Description:  Learn the Anatomy of a knitted sock "Top to Toe". In this class you will learn how to knit a heel flap, turn a heel, work the gusset and shape the toe of your sock. Finishing with closing  the toe using the Kitchener stitch. 
Note: You will be making a toddler size sock in order to learn the technique.
Experience required:  This is a intermediate Class
Students need to know how to knit and purl.
Students should bring: A set of 5 double points needles Size US# 2.  A stitch marker and a stitch counter.
Yarn and handouts will be provided at no additional charge.
Minimum Age: 16
Class size limit: 6

Painting with Wool: Needle Felting a Landscape $45
Instructor:  Candace Osborn

Description:  Use various colored wools to create a landscape on a felt background.  You will learn how to build up a background, and add details to make your own small needle felted painting.
Experience required:  None

Students should bring:  If you have your own needles/foam pad, feel free to bring them.  Otherwise, instructor will have ones you can use.
Materials Fee:  $4 for felt and wool
Minimum Age:  12

Class Limit: 10
